“Play, not work, seems to be the defining essence of life on earth.” Although I think work-play is a false dichotomy, I can certainly get behind the idea of play as a worthless thing that is at the same time extremely valuable.

I edited that note out because it was an interjection from what I discussed with Alex and my point not Rietveld’s. It is in full: ‘If behaviour is our medium, architecture is interaction design.’
OK, I was surprised Rietveld would use the term interaction design. This explains a lot.
He did talk about creating public spaces with the affordances built into them to get people to interact both with the essence of the space and with each other. So maybe that counts?
Yeah I guess it does. Who cares about labels anyway.
